Flare Hydrangea is a compact upright deciduous shrub with medium green foliage and profuse flowering of dense panicles that arches the branches in full bloom. The long conical panicles open white and mature to bright red in mid summer before eventually fading to tan. The blooms persist well into fall attracting butterflies. While it can tolerate full sun, its best blooms are in part sun and rich, moist well-drained acidic soils.

MAINTENANCE NEEDS: Medium Maintenance. Mulch soil to maintain moisture and overwinter. If pruning is needed do so after flowering. Slight susceptibility to bud blight, wilt, leaf spot, and mildew. Aphids are occasional problems. Longer panicles can be obtained by thinning the shoots.
